Installation Guide

This guide covers different ways to install OtterStat on your Mac.

Direct Download

The easiest way to install OtterStat:

1. Visit the download page
2. Click "Download .dmg"
3. Open the downloaded OtterStat.dmg file
4. Drag the OtterStat icon to your Applications folder
5. Eject the disk image

First Launch

When launching OtterStat for the first time:

1. Right-click (or Control-click) on OtterStat in Applications
2. Select "Open" from the context menu
3. Click "Open" in the security dialog

This is required because OtterStat is distributed outside the Mac App Store.

Mac App Store

Coming soon - OtterStat will be available on the Mac App Store in the future.

Uninstallation

To remove OtterStat from your Mac:

1. Quit OtterStat (click the menu bar icon and select "Quit")
2. Open Finder and go to Applications
3. Drag OtterStat to the Trash
4. Empty the Trash

Troubleshooting

"OtterStat can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"

This happens because OtterStat is notarized but not distributed through the App Store. To open it:

1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security
2. Scroll down to find the message about OtterStat
3. Click "Open Anyway"

OtterStat doesn't appear in the menu bar

Make sure OtterStat is running. Check Activity Monitor for the OtterStat process. If it's not running, launch it from Applications.
