Getting Started with OtterStat
Welcome to OtterStat! This guide will help you get started with monitoring your Mac's system resources.
What is OtterStat?
OtterStat is a lightweight system monitor that lives in your macOS menu bar. It provides real-time monitoring of:
- CPU - Total usage, per-core breakdown, temperature, and top processes
- Memory - Active, Wired, Compressed, and Cached memory with top processes
- Disk - Volume information and space usage
- Network - Download/upload speeds and IP addresses
- GPU - GPU utilization, temperature, and clock speed
- Battery - Health, cycle count, charging status, and health trend (MacBooks)
System Requirements
- macOS 14.6 (Sonoma) or later
- Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) or Intel processor
Quick Start
- Download OtterStat from the download page
- Open the downloaded
.dmgfile - Drag OtterStat to your Applications folder
- Launch OtterStat from Applications
- Complete the onboarding wizard to configure your menu bar
- Look for the OtterStat icons in your menu bar
Onboarding Wizard
On first launch, OtterStat walks you through setup:
- Choose metrics - Select which metrics to show in the menu bar
- Display mode - Pick your preferred menu bar style (text, graph, bar, etc.)
- Launch at login - Optionally start OtterStat automatically
- Automatic updates - Configure update preferences
You can re-launch the onboarding wizard anytime from Settings → General.
